Fencing: British Youth Championship

During Short Leave two pupils competed in the Southern Region Age Group Foil Qualifiers for the Fencing British Youth Championship. Zara, a Lower Fifth pupil, competed in the Under-16 category and fenced well in the morning before progressing into the direct elimination round. She finished sixth overall which secured her qualification to the National Finals. Fiona, an Upper Three pupil, fenced exceptionally well all day gaining praise from a number of coaches and spectators. She won her semi-final 10-7 to progress to the final. The final was very evenly matched reaching 9-9, Fiona won the last point resulting in her finishing first in the competition and qualifying for the National Championships. Congratulations to both girls, and we wish them good luck for the National competition later in the season.
