Exploring Sustainability and Design in Sweden and Denmark

Over May Long Leave, the Geography and Art departments combined to take 22 pupils on an expedition to Sweden and Denmark to explore natural environments, urban sustainability and how design is a key part of creating positive culture. Highlights included visiting Tyresta National Park to look at how natural areas are managed to maintain biodiversity and protect fragile ecosystems for future generations.

Trips to Skansen, Stockholm’s century-old outdoor cultural museum, as well as the Vasa and ABBA museums, offered fascinating insights into cultural history and popular culture. At the IKEA Museum in Älmhult, pupils took part in a sustainability workshop, learning about design and circularity, and exploring how natural and recycled materials can be used to create everyday objects.

The final adventure was taking a bike tour around Copenhagen to see what city planners are doing to make it the world’s most sustainable city by 2030, giving pupils valuable insight into forward-thinking urban design and environmentally conscious living.

Thank you to all the staff who supported the trip and made it possible
