Euronext Work Experience Programme

Most Wycombe Abbey pupils take part in work experience programmes over the course of their education at School. Having the opportunity to participate in the Euronext London’s work experience programme was a valuable experience to have.

This programme was specifically designed for Wycombe Abbey pupils, and we are very grateful to them for giving us an insight in the financial sector.

Over the three days, we heard from hugely successful women from across the industry. In such a male dominated sector, the inspirational women that we met have shattered glass ceilings and become CEOs and heads of their divisions at world leading companies, such as HSBC, Citadel, Euronext, Vanguard, TP ICap and Alliance Bernstein.

We enjoyed learning about finance-specific topics, such as different asset classes and the variety of finance-based careers. Additionally, we learned more about communication, networking, developing a unique selling point, putting ourselves out there, and the importance of women supporting women—skills that are essential across a wide range of industries.

The highlight of our experience was the panel discussion on the final day, hosted by HSBC, where we had the privilege of hearing from five remarkable women: Delphine D’Amarzit (CEO of Euronext Paris), Virginie Saade (Head of Government and Regulatory Policy at Citadel), Joelle Tarrant (Global Co-Head of Cross Asset Electronic Sales at HSBC), Frances Ritter (Portfolio Manager and Trader at Vanguard), and Oriane Cochard (Equities Trader at T. Rowe Price). It was an honour to ask them questions and receive their invaluable advice.

Reflecting on our experience on the programme, a representative from Euronext shared: ‘I wanted to reach out to let you know that the work experience programme at Euronext this week was a great success, mainly due to the exceptional curiosity, enthusiasm, and engagement displayed by your pupils! Throughout the three days, the girls actively participated in discussions, asked insightful questions, and connected with the experienced professionals they met. They brought a wonderful energy to the programme, and it was clear they took valuable lessons from each experience. Their drive and eagerness to learn were impressive and inspiring. We were proud to witness their growth and confidence and look forward to seeing how they apply these new skills and insights in their future pursuits. Please extend my thanks to everyone at Wycombe Abbey who helped prepare and encourage them to take part.’

This experience opened our eyes to the wide variety of careers in finance, and we hope it will inspire future girls like us, offering them a clear insight into the possibilities in this sector. We learnt some key life lessons that will stay with us forever, like the importance of always being true to ourselves. Above all, we now understand that being a woman is a strength, not only in the financial world but in every aspect of life.
