Chamber Music Success at SESCMC 2024

This year’s Chamber Music journey came to a conclusion with the finals of the South East Schools’ Chamber Music Competition held at St George’s, Hanover Square, London, on Tuesday March 12.

The Piano Trio, consisting of Judy (UV), Allegra (LV) and Chloe (UV), gave a splendid performance, winning First Prize for the intermediate category. This is the third consecutive year that Wycombe Abbey has scooped First Prizes at this ever-growing competition.

The day itself was very exciting. There was just time for a very short rehearsal for each group to get used to the venue and the occasion. As the performances began, there was anticipation and excitement for each group’s contribution. A substantial audience added to the ‘buzz’ with great support from other competitors and parents.

The Wycombe Abbey trio prepared to play. They tuned up, brought the audience in and glided into the first notes of Clara Schumann’s Trio. All was going well. The months of rehearsals and individual preparation were paying off. This melancholy and agitated work suited our performers well and the conversation between the three of them flowed seamlessly. It was fabulous to see how much this group had developed and grown since their first win three years ago. A headlong finish brought their piece to a rousing close. This was a very polished and exciting performance.

When the group heard the result, the elation on their faces was clear. Not only had they had the opportunity to play in this wonderful venue around other talented young musicians, but they also received a beautiful trophy.
