Archives Spark Imagination: Writing Week Success!
30 June 2026 - Academic

This year, Wycombe Abbey’s first Writing Week challenged pupils across all year groups to write back to the archives, using a curated selection of our own historical documents as creative springboards.
During evening sessions in Houses run by the LVI, students from the Fourth Form dove headfirst
into our shared history, exploring old floor plans, early school reports, personal letters from its
first days in 1896, and past editions of the Gazette.

Responses were thoughtful and often amusing, with a particular highlight being the breadth of
imagination across the School. Students produced over 75 pieces ranging from punchy six-word
stories and micro-fiction poems to deeply reflective meditations, diary entries, and longer
letters.
While a handful of these works will be preserved digitally, and can be found HERE, many were
displayed in House colours in Courtyard throughout the week, bringing the community together
to take a quick look during break.

Pinned to the vibrant boards, entries included a hilarious, tongue-in-cheek satirical piece written
from the perspective of an outraged school class while some pupils wrote traditional poems proudly concluding with the school motto, ‘In fide vade’. A special thank you goes to the eight LVI volunteers who worked behind the scenes to coordinate
the week.
Finally, huge congratulations to Pitt House, who emerged as the winning house based on their
dedication and calibre of entries. Their incredible turnout earned them a delectable reward:
boxes of Krispy Kreme doughnuts to share!
Thank you to everyone who put pen to paper and brought Wycombe’s rich history to life in such
spectacular fashion.
