An Immersive Exchange with India’s Leading Schools
2 November 2026 - All

Over Long Leave, three Wycombe Abbey pupils, Flo, Mia K and Mia Y, travelled to India alongside Director of Teaching and Learning, Mr James Young, as part of an immersive exchange programme.
During their 16-day visit, the pupils attended lessons and experienced daily life at Mussoorie International School (MIS) and Welham Girls’ School, two of India’s leading schools. From embracing new cultures and teaching styles to building friendships across the world, the exchange offered a unique insight into life at two outstanding educational institutions.

Reflecting on their experience, the pupils shared their highlights from the trip:
‘Learning the sitar with Sir Agni was so much fun! Bharatanatyam was definitely a challenge, but performing in traditional dress in front of the whole school was unforgettable. I absolutely loved the festival celebrations, dancing with the girls and attempting to sing along while copying their moves!’
Flo (LVI)

‘The kindness and warmth of the girls was incredible! Celebrating Dussehra showed me just how special their sense of community is. From learning the sitar, tabla and Bharatanatyam to performing in front of the whole school, I loved every minute. The cheers we received made it even better!’
Mia K (LVI)

‘Snow-capped Himalayan mountains, monkeys at Landour Bakehouse, Bollywood movies, bowling and delicious Indian food – what an adventure! Celebrating Dussehra with my exchange partner’s family was amazing. Sharing a dorm with 16 girls was a completely new experience, but I made friendships I’ll treasure forever. And I loved wearing a sari and having my Mehndi done!’
Mia Y (LVI)

‘Observing lessons at MIS and exchanging teaching ideas with colleagues was a real highlight. It was wonderful to celebrate excellent classroom practice and share strategies for professional development. Beyond the classroom, the incredible hospitality, delicious communal meals and the moving Ganga Aarti ceremony in Rishikesh made this a truly memorable experience.’
