A Talk on the Ancient Greek Trireme

On 16 September, my mother, Mrs Laura Weeks, joined our history enrichment group to talk about the Trireme, the Ancient Greek warship that helped to make the Ancient Greeks so powerful between the 7th century BC and the 4th century AD. My great-grandfather, Professor John Morrison, was the classicist who solved the 2000-year-old mystery as to how it was built. He recreated the Trireme, which is now in Athens, and called it the Olympias. My mother talked mainly about how he researched the Trireme, the clues he found and the battles in which a Trireme was used, which was extremely interesting. We were able to reflect on the brutal power of the Trireme when we later discussed it in the context of the Peloponnesian Wars with Mr FitzGerald.
