Maria and Radha Earn the Prestigious Adrian Swire Flying Scholarship
18 June 2026 - Co-Curricular

Last year, Maria and Radha (UVI) were awarded the prestigious Adrian Swire Flying Scholarship. Sponsored by the Adrian Swire Charitable Trust, this scholarship provides recipients with £2,500 to fund flying lessons, with the ultimate goal of flying solo. We are incredibly proud of both girls and excited to see their aviation journeys take flight.

Maria – ‘I’ve always been fascinated by the engineering and physics behind flight, and this programme gave me the chance to take what I’d learned in the classroom and experience it in the real world.
From our very first lesson, we were given full control of the aircraft: an experience that was both freeing and empowering. Training in a real aircraft has strengthened my ability to make fast, rational decisions and stay calm under pressure. Balancing altitude, communicating over the radio, and maintaining situational awareness all at once has taught me to trust myself in challenging environments.
We hope this inspires more girls like us to take off with confidence in aviation.
Radha – ‘My interest in aircraft and the mechanics of flight has now become a long-term passion. This flying experience confirmed that I want to work towards obtaining my Private Pilot License – something I have always dreamed of.’
Congratulations to both pupils!
