Partnerships Update

The Spring Term is a significant one for Partnerships, as we welcome both a new group of local Year 5 primary pupils to our Sunday morning enrichment programme and a new cohort of our own LVI Wycombe Abbey pupils who will be delivering the lessons. This year, we have expanded our offering to include an Introduction to German and Music, complementing our already popular Classics and Mathematics classes. Feedback from both pupils and parents has been exceptionally positive.

One parent shared, ‘[My daughter] said the Year 12s made Maths really fun, which is incredible as this is a subject she can struggle with. It’s ignited an even bigger spark for learning, which is wonderful to see. Her confidence and self-belief have grown and she’s now exploring new possibilities and opportunities for her future.’

Another parent wrote to show their appreciation, ‘I just wanted to express my thanks again to you and the girls for putting on such an interesting and enjoyable Year 5 Enrichment Programme. My son has really enjoyed the three sessions – he was up at 7.15am last Sunday to practice his viola! I’ve never seen him so motivated and enthused.’

This term is an important one for our LVI pupils, as they begin their first primary placement, which runs from February to June of the LVI year. Owing to the unique structure of the Wycombe Abbey timetable, different pupils are available at different times for a double-lesson period, while our local partner schools also have varying preferences regarding when they would like our pupils to provide support. I am pleased to report that the pupils have made an excellent start, and the placement now forms a fully embedded element of their curriculum, with only a brief pause for Summer examinations and Future Ready Week during the first half of the Summer Term.

In addition, many of our LVI pupils are weekly volunteers for the Horizon swimming programme, which we host at Wycombe Abbey every week. This supports disabled children to build confidence and technical skill in their swimming. The relationships they forge with their Wycombe Abbey pupils is incredibly powerful, and this remains one of the programmes we are most proud of supporting.

Those aspiring medical students in LVI are placed in a weekly work experience programme by Mrs Scott, our excellent Careers Administrator. One pupil, Ashley, demonstrated exceptional dedication to the local community by voluntarily joining a Castlefield primary placement session, stepping in to teach Mathematics and Classics during Primary Enrichment at the last minute, supervising lunchtime, and then undertaking her first medic placement at a nursing home, Shelburne Lodge, all in one week.
