British Schoolgirls Ski Races – Flaine 2026
10 February 2026 - All

On Friday 23 January, thirteen girls ranging from UIII to UV, accompanied by three members of staff, travelled to Flaine to take part in the annual British Schoolgirls Ski Races. After leaving for the airport at 10am, we made it onto our flight to Geneva airport. The time passed quickly, and before we knew it, we were hopping on a coach to transfer us to Flaine.
Two days of training preceded the races, during which we were coached by our two fantastic and very experienced ski instructors, Hervé and Adrien. On the first day, we spent the morning warming up with some free skiing before having a delicious lunch at the Bistro. We then moved over to the ‘Stade’ slope, where we set up some gates for Giant Slalom training that afternoon, and final times were recorded to decide the teams. We headed back to the hotel quite tired but happy after a great first day.

The next day, we hit the slopes early for more Giant Slalom training, as well as some parallel mixed in. The conditions were perfect for the upcoming A-Team parallel competition which would take place later that afternoon. The A-Team, consisting of Elizabeth (LV), Izzy (UIV), and Izzy (LV) performed incredibly in their races, but unfortunately were disqualified due to a missed gate. Athena (UIII) had her individual slalom races at the same time, in which she came first overall, an outstanding result.
Our first day of races was set to be the Giant Slalom, and we were up bright and early and excited to get going. Despite some snow and a missing pair of skis, we pushed through and managed to achieve some amazing results. Athena once again finished first in her age category, Elizabeth finishing seventh in hers, along with many others not far behind her. That afternoon saw the B, C and D team parallels take place, in which some amazing races took place. Our B and C teams each won two races before very narrowly missing the semi-finals, and the D team won against St Mary’s Ascot B but were just beaten by Benenden B team.

Our final day saw some fantastic times in the Slalom races, and thankfully the forecasted heavy snow did not come to pass. A special mention goes to Izzy, who finished 24th overall as an U14, but unfortunately due to changes in the prize categories did not receive the medal she would have won for this result in previous years. Our B-team also skied amazingly well and placed as the third best B-team overall, so well done to Taylor (UV), Coco (LV) and Siv (LIV) for this achievement!
We all had such an amazing time on this trip and really improved on not only our skiing, but also our mindset and our support of each other. Before every race there was always a lovely atmosphere, and everyone was cheering each other on and showing amazing school spirit. A massive thank you must go out to Mr Greenall, Miss Tay and Mr Cadman for making this trip possible!
