Wycombe Abbey is commencing work on a major improvement to the School’s main entrance as part of the first phase of our long-term Estates Masterplan. This significant project will enhance the experience of everyone arriving at the School and strengthen the overall safety and efficiency of site access.

The decision to redevelop the entrance has been carefully considered. The existing arrangements have long presented challenges relating to traffic flow, vehicle and pedestrian safety, accessibility, and the overall visitor experience.

The new entrance will:

  • Enhance security, safety and safeguarding.

  • Reduce congestion on Frances Dove Way.

  • Provide a more welcoming and efficient arrival experience for all.

Key Features of the New Entrance



A purpose-built Custodians’ Lodge and Visitor Reception to improve access control and reception facilities.

Separate entrance and exit routes to better manage traffic flow, support security checks, and reduce the backing up of traffic on Frances Dove Way (A404).

Improved pedestrian routes and level access for greater accessibility across the site.

Enhanced landscaping to complement the Abbey setting and create an attractive arrival space with dedicated visitor parking and EV charging.

A dedicated post room and delivery area to streamline School operations.

Part of a Long-Term Vision


This project forms part of Phase 1 of the Wycombe Abbey Masterplan - a strategic programme of development to be delivered over the next 15+ years. The Masterplan represents a significant investment in the School’s boarding, academic, and general facilities so as to provide the best possible educational environment for pupils and staff. The Main Entrance redevelopment complements the other Phase 1 projects: the Innovation and Design Centre and the new Junior House, which are currently awaiting planning permission.

The Custodians' Lodge project is due to be complete by the end of August 2026 and we are confident that this project will bring long-term benefits to the entire School community and support our commitment to providing world-class facilities for our pupils. We greatly appreciate your patience and understanding during the construction period. Further detailed information about access arrangements will be shared in the coming weeks.

 Our Masterplan

The main building phase runs from 2 February to August 2026, during which the current Main Entrance off Frances Dove Way will be closed. 

Clarence Gate (Marlow Hill) – Entry only, manned by Custodians. 

Rupert Lodge Gate (Marlow Hill) – Entry and exit. 

Crispin Way Gate (Daws Hill) – Entry and exit. 

War Office Gate (A40 via Wendover Way) – Entry only 7:30am – 9:00am; Exit only 4:30pm – 5:45pm (Mon–Fri) – permit holders only. 

Yes, the Main Entrance will be closed. Day Boarders should use the gates listed above. Drop-and-go is encouraged at boarding houses to reduce congestion. 

They should follow the same arrangements as parents: 

Enter via Clarence Gate and follow Custodian directions. 

For Daws Hill houses and Junior House, collection should be from directly the boarding houses where there is ample parking. 

No. Deliveries and post will be managed by the temporary Custodians’ Lodge, and pupils/staff will receive parcels as usual.

Visitor parking will be available at Clarence House and as directed by Custodians from the temporary lodge at Clarence Gate.  

They will report to the temporary Custodians’ Lodge at Clarence Gate for instructions. 

Where can parents and visitors view updated maps, signage information, and access routes?

Maps and signage updates will be shared via School communications and available on the School website. Visitors will be provided with an information leaflet before their visit. A useful page is How to Find Us

Regular updates will be sent via email and posted on the School website. Event-specific parking details will also be communicated in advance. You will find information on our website here. 

Yes, events will continue. Communications will be sent before each event explaining where to park (typically Lime Avenue or the Bonfire Plateau) and our Custodians and Estates teams will assist on arrival. 

Pedestrian access is via the relocated gate on Marlow Hill, adjacent to the Health and Wellbeing Centre. Pedestrians should report to the Main School Reception which will be sign posted.
