Welcoming Clemens Mohr: A Cultural Exchange at Wycombe Abbey
7 March 2025 - All

This March, we were delighted to welcome teacher Clemens Mohr from Elisabethenschule in Main, near Frankfurt. Clemens applied via a UK-German Connection Programme which supported him with his visit and Wycombe Abbey was pleased to host him to encourage intercultural learning and awareness.
Clemens says, ‘I was really excited to spend time at Wycombe Abbey and to learn about the school in detail; I gained a behind-the-scenes view. I was really impressed by the way the staff and the girls worked together and the guidance and warmth the staff provided. Wycombe Abbey pupils are curious, open, independent, they were really interested to hear about my school in Germany. They especially liked reading the letters I brought with me from my students; I hope they will consider being pen pals.
I feel that living together on a campus makes a difference. I had the opportunity to go to Barry House in the evening and see how the boarders live. We composed a song together (I am a Music Teacher), and the girls gave me a preview of their House Shout, which was fun.
Thank you to Avani Hurribunce for overseeing my visit; it was so well-planned and enjoyable. I hope that we can keep in touch.’
Following Clemens’ visit, Avani Hurribunce reflects ‘Clemens’ week at Wycombe Abbey was a whirlwind of activity, from teaching English, German, and Music to attending meetings and concerts. He immersed himself in School life, leading a songwriting session in Barry House, joining in with karaoke, and enjoying two unforgettable theatre trips to Wicked and Hamlet.
Pupils and staff alike were full of praise for Clemens, with many wishing he could stay longer. His visit was a wonderful exchange of ideas and experiences, benefitting both him and the School. This partnership has already made a lasting impact, and we look forward to building on it in the future’
