Wycombe Abbey’s Success at the Medical Lecture Competition
20 November 2024 - Academic

This term, the UVI medics had the privilege of attending the annual Medical Lecture Competition with Radley College and Harrow School. The event brought together aspiring medical pupils, offering a platform to share and explore innovative ideas in the field of medicine. Speakers from Radley and Harrow presented on a wide range of medical topics such as the use of Ozempic for obesity treatment, faecal transplants for improving the microbiome, and cutting-edge research into a new cancer vaccine.

Wycombe Abbey was proudly represented by Astrid and Izzy, who both delivered outstanding talks. Astrid’s presentation focused on the impact of probiotics in managing Inflammatory Bowel Disease, and Izzy’s addressed key healthcare challenges within UK prisons. The judges commended both talks for their confident delivery, and we are thrilled to celebrate Izzy’s remarkable achievement in winning the overall competition, a testament to her hard work, expertise, and compelling presentation skills.

The evening concluded with a delightful dinner, where we had the chance to further discuss medical topics and socialise with peers from other schools.
Many thanks to Mr Whiteley and Mrs McNeill for helping to organise this insightful experience. I know that our LVI medics are already looking forward to hosting this exciting event next year!
