A Groundsperson is required to help maintain the beautiful 160-acre estate at Wycombe Abbey which includes sports pitches, parkland, woodland and gardens.  Appropriate experience, including spraying (PA1/PA6) is essential and chainsaw qualifications would be an advantage.  You will need to be able to use your own initiative and a have a flexible approach.

Hours of work: Monday to Friday 8am – 4.15pm and every third Saturday 8am – 12pm. Occasional weekend work will be required to assist with events and at the start and end of term.

Salary: Dependent upon qualifications and experience.

Key tasks will include:

  • Maintaining the lawns, playing fields and hard court areas to a high standard, ensuring they are safe and fit for purpose. This will involve top dressing, weed control and other such duties.
    • Ensure that at all times the presentation of the borders, shrubs, hedges, flowerbeds, etc. is of the highest order, paying particular attention to high profile events that attract visitors and parents to the School.
  • Assisting in the marking out of pitches for various sporting events and parking arrangements.
    • Maintaining the environmental area to a safe and healthy condition using a variety of horticultural techniques and specialised equipment.

 

Mechanical equipment:
• Carry out basic servicing and first line repairs of the mechanical equipment, ensuring that all grounds equipment is maintained to a safe and serviceable condition and workshop facilities are kept clean and tidy. Report any defects to the Head Groundsman.

Health and safety:
• At all times maintain the highest standards of health and safety, paying particular attention to the correct use and storage of all COSHH material.
• Seek the advice of the Head Groundsman as required.

Resource management:
• In the absence of the Head Groundsman, receive goods and sign delivery notes.
• Act responsibly to ensure the safe use and security of grounds equipment and tools to ensure property is maintained at all times.
• Assisting the Head Groundsman with various clerical duties including record keeping and safety documentation.

School events:
• For certain School events, and in accordance with instructions issued by the Head Groundsman, assist in car parking and other such activities.

 

General:
• Assisting in the clearance of ice and snow when necessary.
• Checking and maintaining boundary fencing / other fencing on a regular basis.
• To take part in training programmes provided by the school.
• To undertake such other duties which may be reasonably required.

Safeguarding:
• To adhere to school policy on safeguarding and updating training as required.
• To ensure the safeguarding and well-being of children and young people at the school in accordance with school policies.

Essential requirements:
• Full clean drivers licence
• Previous experience in horticultural / grounds maintenance
• Ability to work on own and part of a team
• Physically fit to undertake role and ability to carry heavy loads
• The ability to prioritise, work calmly under pressure and respond positively to varying workloads
• NVQ or equivalent in Horticulture/Grounds Maintenance
• Spraying Certificates PA1 and PA6
• Excellent team working skills
• An understanding and commitment to adhering to school policy on safeguarding
• A willingness to work additional hours if required

Desirable requirements:
• Chainsaw qualifications CS30/CS31
• Spraying Certificates PA2

Wycombe Abbey School is a private girls boarding school situated in the centre of High Wycombe. It is a conservation area and is listed in the register of parks and gardens by English Heritage. Whilst most of the grounds are given over to parkland, woodland or school buildings, there are important areas of shrub borders which complement the buildings and grounds. Groundsperson - Job Description

Wycombe Abbey School are seeking to employ a Security Officer to fulfil a vital role in the School’s security arrangements, with key responsibility for control of entry to the site. The post holder will operate and control CCTV, monitor access control, alarm systems and provide a visible patrol of the estate.

The Security Team are important front-of-house staff, therefore require excellent customer service skills with an enthusiastic, flexible and proactive approach.

We offer flexible shifts, normally 8 hours, over a rolling 7-day period. Uniform will be provided and meals are available during term-time when on duty.

Salary £19,748 rising to £21,500 after SIA accreditation, based on a 41-hour week.

Security Officer Job Description

This role is an exciting opportunity for a graduate with an interest in education to gain experience for two terms in this prestigious, forward-thinking and high-achieving school.

Wycombe Abbey employs 11 Resident Tutors each year: 1 in each of the 9 senior boarding houses (age 12– 17) and 2 in our Junior House (age 11-12). Each Resident Tutor is attached to one specific House and is an important member of the House pastoral team under the guidance of the Housemistress. Duties will include assisting with wake-ups and bedtimes, organising activities, attending House parties and outings.

A Resident Tutor will be attached to at least 2 academic departments according to degree and A-Level subjects. There will be opportunities to observe lessons, and if desired, to team-teach. There may also be opportunities to help with university preparation lessons and to give individual university advice. There will also be opportunities to help with activities such as drama, sport or music, according to each applicant’s particular interests. This may be part of a timetabled lesson, or in the evenings.

We are seeking enthusiastic and able applicants to join the team in a senior boarding house working with around 45 girls aged 12-17. This is an important support role within our pastoral teams, working under the direction of the Housemistress and Assistant Housemistress to create a welcoming, supportive, encouraging and cheerful environment for our girls.

 

The successful candidate will ideally have previous experience working with young people, a positive “can-do” attitude, a practical approach, warmth, enthusiasm and strong communication and organisational skills.

 

Duties will include providing a welcoming presence within the house, routine tasks such as laundry and organisation of supplies and deliveries, house administration tasks, ensuring that the house is tidy and any other duties to assist the house team.

 

Hours:

Monday, Tuesday & Friday 1 – 11pm (approx. 32 weeks per year)
