Wycombe Abbey now seeks a Deputy Head (Strategy and Operations) to work closely with the Headmistress and Bursar in planning and implementing the School’s strategic direction. The post holder will play a vital role within the School’s Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and lead on the smooth day-to-day running of the School.

The Deputy Head (Strategy and Operations) is a challenging and varied role, with involvement in every area of School life, providing leadership, oversight and direct coordination of the day-to-day organisation of key areas of the School. This role will be crucial to the fulfilment of our new Strategic Direction.

The successful candidate will have significant experience of leadership within a school, superb organisation skills, advanced skills in the use of digital technology, capacity for strategic thought with and understanding of how to maintain excellence in all areas of school life). They will have a strong moral compass, enthusiasm and warmth and will be a confident and engaging public speaker. Enthusiasm for the boarding environment is essential.

The post-holder is required to live on site during term time and family accommodation is provided. Wycombe Abbey has its own salary scale which compares favourably with other independent schools and is well above that of the maintained sector.

We seek to appoint an experienced Head of Finance to assist the Bursar (COO) and Governing Council in the financial management of the School, which has an operational turnover of more than £27m per annum.  The Head of Finance will lead and oversee the financial functions of the School, its four subsidiary companies and two trusts, ensuring statutory compliance with HMRC and Charity Commission requirements.

The appointed candidate will be a qualified accountant with a successful track record of management in an operational finance role, possessing strong technical and commercial capabilities. An understanding, ideally gained through experience, of the nature of financial management within the Charitable sector is required, as are strong communication skills and a genuine commitment to Wycombe Abbey’s aims and ethos. The role would suit a proactive applicant who is able to reach out to, and communicate with, all areas of the School in order to provide advice and support with financial issues.

The Head of Finance will lead and manage a team of 6 Finance & Payroll staff and 5 School Shop staff and will motivate and guide everyone who contributes to this vital function.

The salary for this role will be commensurate with skills and experience and not less than £60,000 per annum. Hybrid working will be considered for the right candidate once settled in post.

Wycombe Abbey, a world leader in girls’ boarding education, seeks to appoint a Facilities Manager to undertake responsibility for the maintenance of the buildings and facilities on the 170-acre School site, ensuring the efficient and effective operation of the School facilities.

The post holder will lead and manage a team of skilled facilities staff to ensure all maintenance services are provided to the highest specification across the large estate which comprises of both listed buildings and newly-built properties.

The successful applicant will be proactive with the ability to manage people successfully, communicate, negotiate and resolve often complex issues, working at pace with excellent attention to detail.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week. This job involves full-time working hours all year round and some early mornings, evenings and weekends, which may include responding to emergencies outside of normal working hours. A 3-bedroom bungalow is provided on site.

Salary: Dependent upon skills and experience but not expected to be less than £40k per annum.

Facilities Manager (Residential) Job Description

Wycombe Abbey, a world leader in girls’ boarding education, seeks to appoint a Maintenance Plumber to work as a member of the in-house Maintenance Team, with primary responsibility for mechanical systems and services across our large estate.

Our estate spans 170 acres and comprises a diverse range of historic listed buildings as well as newly-built properties. Facilities include a range of boarding houses, a sports centre, a performing arts centre, a chapel and staff accommodation.

The post holder will be required to work 37.5 hours per week as part of a shift system, with hours to be agreed with the Facilities Manager on a rota basis. The post holder may be required to respond to emergencies outside of normal School hours which may include evenings, weekends and bank holidays.

The successful applicant will demonstrate plumbing competency and will hold a formal plumbing qualification as well as Gas Safe registration. A full driving licence is essential. Experience suited to working in a school and residential environment is desirable and applicants should have the ability to maintain spreadsheets and project lists. Experience of computerised maintenance systems is preferred and possession of other site skills is an advantage.

Salary: Dependent upon skills and experience but not expected to be less than £35k per annum.

The successful candidates will ideally have previous experience working with young people, a positive “can-do” attitude, a practical approach, warmth, enthusiasm and strong communication and organisational skills.

Duties will include providing a welcoming presence within the house, routine tasks such as laundry and organisation of supplies and deliveries, house administration tasks, ensuring that the house is tidy and any other duties to assist the house team.

Hours:

We are seeking reliable, enthusiastic and able applicants to provide cover in boarding houses working with around 60 girls aged 11-18.  This is an important support role within our pastoral teams, working under the direction of the Housemistress and Assistant Housemistress to create a welcoming, supportive, encouraging and cheerful environment for our girls.

The successful candidates will ideally have previous experience working with young people, a positive “can-do” attitude, a practical approach, warmth, enthusiasm and strong communication and organisational skills.
