A Celebration of Giving

Our final Evensong of the school year was a celebration of giving. Our guests, Nikki Khoram from Ripple Africa and Diana Chadwick from the Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Service told us how the money we have raised over the past two years is being used to fund their work. This work included conserving forests, planting 1000 trees, funding two pre-school settings for 100 children over a year, and supporting services to help local women who have suffered abuse. Over the course of the two years, pupils have raised £14,995 for Ripple Africa and £14,443 for Rape and Sexual Abuse Support Services. Next year’s elected charities will be Mary’s Meals and Wycombe Refugee Partnership.

In addition to our whole School charities, we have also supported our Dove charities* (Melanesian Mission and Central Aid), Mary’s Meals, Switchboard, Royal British Legion Poppy Appeal, MIND, All Saints Church High Wycombe, Red Cross Syria/Turkey Earthquake Appeal and One Can Trust.

During our celebration at Evensong, we also watched a film depicting a wide selection of the fundraising and volunteering some of our pupils have been involved in outside of school. These charities included Disability Sports Coach Buckinghamshire, Tennis 4 the World, Refugee Network International, Wycombe Refugee Partnership and volunteering in Bali, Latvia and at the Duke of Edinburgh celebrations at Buckingham Palace.

Our thanks go to our Charity Prefects Annette and Ayla (UVI) for their organisation over the year and for running a hamper raffle for the charity Mind during Mental Health Awareness Week. Together with our amazing House Charity Reps, they have exemplified the ethos of Giveback in our community.

*Wycombe Abbey has supported the work of the Melanesian Mission since the School was founded by Dame Francis Dove, working to improve education and access to Christianity in this remote region. Dame Frances Dove was one of the founders of Central Aid, which currently supports the poor in High Wycombe by providing and selling second-hand furniture and electrical appliances.
