May saw the start of the School Athletics season, and with it the first time that House Athletics has been a standalone event in recent history. Girls from UIII through to UVI competed for their current, previous or soon to be Senior Houses. The day saw over 325 girls competing and over 50 staff from all subjects helping to run the event. It really was a true whole School and whole House event. The format of the day was changed from that of previous years, with both heats and finals taking place on the track, and all field events running in parallel. This provided lots of entertainment for the many friends and families that came to enjoy the day. Much fun was had cheering on friends, enjoying the sandwiches and scones, and listening to the commentary from Mr Franks and Miss Hoyle.

As has become a tradition at House Athletics finals, there were yet again some outstanding individual performances, with many School records being broken throughout the day. These included: Anisiya (UIII), Junior Shot Putt; Arabella (LV), Intermediate 100m; Carys (LV), Intermediate Javelin; Temi (LVI), Senior Shot and Senior 200m. Temi broke the 200m record in her heat, before breaking her own record again in the final.

Once all the events were finished the siblings took to the track before the final results were announced and presented by Mrs Wilkinson. The Victrix Ludorum trophies were presented to: Junior, Amelia (LIV); Intermediate, Francesca (LV); Senior, Temi. These girls all excelled in their three events of the day, scoring the most individual points for their House in the respective year groups. House trophies were then presented to: Junior, Barry; Intermediate, Pitt; Senior, Campbell. When all points were combined, Pitt House rose to the top to be crowned House Athletics Champions for 2019.

The PE department would like to thank all members of the School community for making this event an outstanding success and one to be added to everyone’s calendars for next year.
