An Entertaining First Weekend

The autumn term this year began with a flurry of exciting events bringing the whole school together and welcoming new pupils to a Wycombe Abbey weekend.

The UIII were invited to attend the annual Headmistress's Picnic which took the form of a Mad Hatter's Tea Party. Complete with face painting, eccentric crockery and a colourful array of food, the new Junior House girls were able to enjoy a wonderful first Saturday afternoon.

During the evening, the UVI Comedy night was held in the Carrington Room. Amy Howerska (Radio 4's Now Show, NewsJack) hosted the evening's entertainment and rounded up a top team of comedians many of whom had just finished performing at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival.

The Clarence girls heard specially tailored sets from Eleanor Tiernan (RTE's Irish Pictorial Weekly, Comedy Central's Alternative Comedy Experience), Sooz Kempner (2012 Variety Award at the Funny Women Awards), Laura Lexx (2009 Chortle Student Comedy Award Finalist) and Olaf Falafel (Sweden's eighth funniest comedian). The event proved to be extremely successful and a delightful start to the new school year.

On Sunday the funfair arrived at Wycombe Abbey and the whole school gathered on the Abbey Lawn. The thrill seekers were kept happy with bigger and faster rides than ever and the ice-cream and candyfloss, Helter Skleter and high striker made sure there was something for everyone.
