Last Saturday, following their success at the GISGA Championships held at Wycombe Abbey, our U16 team represented the South of England at the Carita House National Schools Gymnastics Championships at Stoke on Trent. The team started on the vault where all of our gymnasts performed really well and finished in second place. After the floor they were lying in fifth place, only half a point behind the bronze medal position. In the group sequence all six girls were determined to improve their standing and they performed a wonderfully synchronised sequence which earned them silver medals. This was enough for the team to finish in third place overall.
It wasn't just our Lacrosse players who tasted success over the past week! On Monday, Wycombe entered three teams into the South Bucks Trampolining competition held at Chesham High School. The standard of trampolining at Wycombe continues to improve with the excellent coaching of Mrs Mainwaring and this year we welcomed our new LVI trampolininst, Steph.
Although the final placings for our second and third teams have not yet been confirmed, our first team of Harriet, Steph, Olivia and Misty performed their routines with technical precision and excellent control to steal the trophy from Sir William Borlase and we are very proud to be able to call them 'South Bucks Schools Trampolining Champions!
Wycombe Abbey congratulates our U14 Lacrosse squad who completed a hat-trick of Lacrosse tournament victories this season to be crowned National Champions on Saturday. The trophy was collected on behalf of the team by Helen, after a superb team performance - finishing with a convincing win over Lady Eleanor Holles in the final.
Other victims of Wycombe's slick passing and tactically astute defending included St Catherine's Bramley, Berkhamsted, Benenden, St George's Harpenden and Godolphin. The title of National Champions was the 'icing on the cake' for a year group who are also Midlands' Lacrosse Champions, 8 a-side Tournament Lacrosse Champions, District Netball Champions and Regional Netball Finalists.
Wycombe's First XII Lacrosse squad defeated last year's National Schools' finalists, Guildford High, before capping off an excellent day with another victory against a fresh Stowe team. Of the six matches against Guildford, four finished with only one goal separating the teams, providing some excellent competition for both schools.
Our Ski Team recently competed against 141 other racers at the British Schoolgirls' Ski Races. Our 'B' team performed brilliantly, coming second in their division to win the silver medal.
Our U16 and U14 Netball teams represented South Buckinghamshire in the regional round of the National Schools Netball Tournament on Saturday and both teams played extremely well.
At the end of the Autumn term, whilst many were preparing for the festive season, 20 Wycombe Abbey Ski Racers travelled to Les Deux Alpes to compete in the Independent Schools Ski Championships. Seventeen teams participated in the Championships, with over half of these teams consisting of boys or mixed teams.
