Tremendous Sporting Achievements

As the winter sports season draws to a close and we prepare for a busy Summer Term of mainly Tennis, Cricket and Athletics, we would like to say a huge well done to all of the pupils for their commitment and hard work and to parents for their continued support. Over 400 pupils have regularly trained and competed so far this year with an additional 100 pupils taking part in recreational clubs or sporting extras.

National Lacrosse Champions

In the recent England Lacrosse National Championships held in Aldershot, Wycombe Abbey were crowned Under 19 National Champions. The girls played fantastically throughout the day with a special mention going to Mia, UVI who was named ‘Attacker of the tournament’ and Emily, UVI who made a game winning penalty save in the semi-finals and was named ‘Goalkeeper of the tournament’. Following the Under 19 success, the Under 14A team topped their group and also progressed through the quarter- and semi-finals to the final for the second year in a row. Carys, UV commented: “It still hasn’t sunk in. I feel like a hero”.

England U20 Indoor Athletics Champion

In late February Temi, UVI (School Sports Captain) started her Athletics season, with a gold medal and an Under-20 Women’s Championship record in Triple Jump at the England Indoor Championships. This was a tremendous achievement for anybody, but particularly so for Temi because she only started this discipline 11 months ago!  Her jump of 12.92m broke the previous record set in 2008. Temi commented: “I am a bit disappointed I didn’t crack 13 metres because I couldn’t get the right foot placement on the board. But then again, it’s my first competition of the season and it was a last minute decision, with the advice of my coach, to compete! So I didn’t go in expecting too much”.

Sporting Culture and Mission Statement

Underpinning all of our sporting activities is our culture and our mission statement:

Culture: a culture in which high performance, mass participation, variety, enjoyment and health and fitness are all valued equally and by all.

Mission Statement: all pupils enjoy striving to be the best they can be, and some excel.
