Cross Country Success

Cross Country | Wycombe Abbey

February has seen excellent success in Cross Country, at both International and County level.

Twenty-nine girls ran in the Buckinghamshire Schools Athletics Association County Championships in the beautiful setting of the National Trust’s Stowe Park. In the Minor category UIII, Jasmine finished in fifth place, Maria in eighth place and Annabelle in ninth place. As a result, all three girls have been invited to compete at the Junior Nationals in Loughborough during March. In the Junior category UIV, Arolape finished in eleventh place and has been invited to compete at the English Schools Championships in Liverpool.

Much of this success has been inspired by joint Athletics Captains, Temi and Phoebe, UVI. Phoebe’s commitment and dedication to training, and passion for Cross Country and Athletics saw her selected for the England U20 Women’s team at the Cross Country Cup in Belgium. Phoebe finished in third place which was a fantastic achievement against a very impressive line-up and joined her team mates on a podium made up of all-England athletes!

Phoebe said: “I hugely enjoyed the experience of travelling and competing with the team”. Phoebe’s outstanding achievement is very much deserved as she commits to her running whilst balancing her A Level studies and responsibilities as Deputy Head Girl. Earlier this year, Phoebe was recruited for a Track and Cross Country place at Columbia University, which is testament to her high standards.

We wish all girls the very best of luck in their upcoming races.
