Bonfire Night 2020

On Wednesday 4 November, the weather was on our side as we hosted our annual Bonfire Night and fireworks display in the School grounds. Sadly, this year, the School site was closed to visitors due to the current Covid-19 restrictions. However, the pupils and staff were still able to enjoy the display albeit with social distancing measures in place.
Traditionally, each House runs a Charity stall on Bonfire Night, open to visitors, pupils and staff to enjoy. Previous years have included stalls selling bracelets, scrunchies, pamper kits and a tombola. Whilst we were unable to host our usual Charity stalls, our pupils have made a great contribution to the School’s Foundation Charities: One Can Trust, a food bank offering emergency food parcels to those in need in the South Buckinghamshire area; High Wycombe Central Aid, a charity that provides basic furniture and appliances to homes in needs; and Melanesian Mission, an Anglican mission agency that provides support to the Anglican Church of Melanesia through prayer, people and giving.
The girls and staff raised funds with a Mufti Day and, to replace the traditional Charity stalls, each House created a themed hamper, available to win in a raffle. In true style, the girls came up with very creative ideas, including a ‘Pink Christmas’ hamper from Rubens and not one, but two, hampers from Junior House, filled with treats for the ‘Ultimate Tuck Box’! Well done to all of the Houses for their contributions and wonderful charitable efforts. The raffle ticket sales began on Friday this week and both the winners of the raffle and the ‘Best House Hamper’ will be announced in Big School on Friday 20 November.
Alongside our charitable activities, every year the LIV pupils from each House produce a ‘Guy’ to place on the Bonfire. Over Long Leave, each pupil worked on a shoebox, which they then combined to make one overall House Guy. An Orange Juice cartoon by Butler and a Monsters Inc ‘Mike Wazowski’ character by Cloister were all impressive. The judges were torn, and after much deliberation, the final prizes went to Wendover for their House of Cards in third place, Rubens ‘Zoom Call’ in second place, and Campbell’s giant Cadbury Dairy Milk bar took first place.
Congratulations to all girls for their fantastic inventiveness and teamwork and to Campbell on their overall victory!
