Largest Ever Cohort of Applications to US Universities

Wycombe Abbey pupils have been admitted to a range of world-class US universities and colleges. The cohort of applicants this year is the largest that Wycombe Abbey has ever had – with 30 Clarence girls and three Seniors making applications. We’d like to take this opportunity to celebrate their success.

Making applications to US universities is a long and sometimes onerous process, not to be underestimated and requiring real investment from pupils. In addition to the testing requirements – the ACT or the SAT, plus, normally, SAT Subject Tests – applicants are required to write a series of essays per college and are often interviewed. The 2019-20 outcomes are a testament to the diligence and hard work of the girls.

The Ivy League is well represented, with acceptances from Columbia University, Dartmouth College, the University of Pennsylvania and Yale University. Among other notable acceptances are the University of California, Berkeley, the California Institute of Technology, the University of Chicago, Duke University, Johns Hopkins University, the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and the University of Southern California. Remarkably, five girls received acceptances from the University of California, Berkeley. Small liberal arts colleges were also popular, with Davidson College, Pomona College, and Vassar College all represented. Four girls received offers from Wesleyan University.

Appetite for higher education in the Unites States is flourishing throughout the school. Our provision for pupils undertaking the US college application process is growing, so we anticipate large numbers of applicants in future years.
