Wycombe Abbey ranked eighth best independent school for sport

We are delighted to have been recognised by School Sports Magazine as the eighth best independent school and the third best girls’ school for sport in the UK.

This is the second year in a row that Wycombe Abbey has been ranked in the top ten.

The 2017 ranking is based on 20 different sports and more than 120 different national competitions, with more weighting given to success in a range of sports rather than single sports, as well as competitions with more teams involved.

At Wycombe Abbey, our girls compete in a wide range of sports from lacrosse, athletics and tennis through to swimming, fencing, football and hockey. The girls enjoy a varied fixture programme against a variety of schools in local, regional and national networks and competitions. Along with these competitive opportunities, our sporting strengths lie in how we combine the promotion of mass participation in sport and exercise, while also achieving great levels of sporting performance in a range of both team and individual school sports.

Wycombe Abbey’s Director of Sport, Louisa Taylor, said, “We were immensely proud to be ranked in the top ten best independent schools for sport for the second year running. The positive sporting culture within the School and the national success our girls and teams have achieved in a variety of sports is a credit to the passion, expertise and dedication of all pupils and staff involved in our sporting community.”
