The Sixth Form Politics A level students attended the annual Politics Conference in Central Hall Westminster along with 2000 other students. We were given the opportunity to hear many prominent politicians from a wide range of parties speak passionately on current issues.
John Bercow opened the conference with an engaging and witty speech on his role as Speaker of the House of Commons, the reforms he has made and his plans for the future. Tim Farron delivered a passionate speech and outlined the Lib Dems' plans for the future. We also heard from many MPs such as Nadine Dorries, Douglas Carswell, Angus Robertson, Tristram Hunt and Alan Duncan. Natalie Bennett, Leader of the Green Party also attended as well as Chris Grayling, who described his role as Leader of the Commons. Unfortunately, Andy Burnham had to pull out last minute as he was beckoned by Jeremy Corbyn to a meeting of the parliamentary Labour party. The day was hugely successful and enjoyable and we all gained a much greater understanding of the individual parties and workings of Parliament.
