This past Saturday, fourteen girls travelled from Wycombe Abbey to participate in London Oratory's annual MUN Conference. The three delegations from Wycombe included both experienced and first-time delegates representing Guatemala, Togo, and the United Kingdom. Delegates began the morning hearing from guest speaker Nick Clegg, who passed along excellent advice on the persuasion of political leaders and public speaking. The delegates then spent the day debating a range of topics from the use of chemical weapons by ISIS to the death penalty.
The general assembly convened in the afternoon to handle an emergency crisis involving the sinking of a South Korean ship and nuclear tests run in North Korea. Three delegates were commended for their efforts throughout the day: Sacha, UVI, commended in the Security Council (representing the United Kingdom), Mint, UVI, commended in the Special Political Decolonisation Committee (representing the United Kingdom), and Alicia, UVI, highly commended in the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (representing the United Kingdom). The MUN team is now looking forward to three upcoming conferences next term.
