    Football Teams Shine

Superb performances from the our 4 football teams kept up our excellent reputation at the Independent Schools National 6 a-side tournament at Stamford High School, Lincolnshire on Sunday.

The U15’s had a strong section and despite outstanding performances by Celeste, in the goal for the first time, just failed to make the semi-finals. Our 2 U13 teams played in the same section with the ‘A’ team clinching a semi-final place where Claire scored twice in their 2-1 victory. Particularly impressive was the great defensive effort from Jasmine and Margot who managed to stop the overpowering opposition number 7 who had singlehandedly destroyed all the other teams! In the final versus Alleyn’s a nail-biting 0-0 draw after extra time meant a penalty shoot-out. Despite the excellent goalkeeping from Eloise, Wycombe lost by one penalty. Really bad luck, but worthy runners up.
The U19’s, captained by the inspirational Louise thoroughly deserved their semi-final place against the tournament favourites St Bede’s. A jaw-dropping performance in goal by Harriet and a ‘Ronaldoesque’ solo effort from Geeta  clinched a 1 -0 victory setting up a final with host school Stamford High. Sadly, Wycombe couldn’t put the ball in the back of the net and lost 0-1. Again a fantastic effort and well deserved silver medallists.
