Erasmus Prize 2011

The Erasmus Prize is an essay competition between a host of independent schools from around the country. It provides an opportunity for UVI girls to study a challenging area of philosophy which is not immediately related to their A level Studies. This year's examiner of the competition was the distinguished modern philosopher of aesthetics, Dr Roger Scruton, and he set entrants a challenging essay on the judgement of taste and the value of beauty. Four girls were selected to attend the Awarding Ceremony at Oundle School on Friday 11th March: Leonore, Claire, Grace, and Marie.

We are delighted to report that after an address and Q&A with Dr Scruton on society's ‘flight from beauty', Leonore was awarded first prize and a book grant for £500. Congratulations to all the girls who took part and especially to Leonore for her outstanding achievement.
