1st XII Lacrosse rise to the challenge against Oxford University
At the end of the Autumn term, whilst many were preparing for the festive season, 20 Wycombe Abbey Ski Racers travelled to Les Deux Alpes to compete in the Independent Schools Ski Championships. Seventeen teams participated in the Championships, with over half of these teams consisting of boys or mixed teams.
Our ‘A' team were champions in the Giant Slalom and Slalom and were awarded gold medals and two trophies. There were individual medals for both boys and girls. Lucy was champion and gold medallist in both the Giant & Normal Slalom, Issy came second in both events, Rosanna was third in the Slalom and Francesca placed third in the Giant Slalom.
Our ‘A' team was also placed second in the Dual Slalom with a mixed team from Ardingley College winning gold. Lucy was placed second overall and was only beaten by a 17 year old Italian boy Racer!
The teams were skiing in conditions of -30 degree so the girls did incredibly well. Congratulations to all who took part but particular thanks to Francesca, our Ski Captain, and to Mrs Peers and Mr Franks for their help and support throughout the Championships. Both, most definitely deserved a gold medal for surviving the elements and encouraging the girls.
