1st XII Lacrosse rise to the challenge against Oxford University
1st XII Lacrosse team and Oxford University
|
In front of an enthusiastic home crowd on Saturday 28 November, Wycombe Abbey's 1st XII Lacrosse team took on an experienced side from Oxford University. The match was played at the highest intensity, with assertive defending from both teams.
Player of the Match, Polly, made some outstanding saves to keep the younger side in the game in the first ten minutes of the match as Oxford drove relentlessly to goal. Wycombe's defence was also bolstered by the return of Nina, Team Captain, from injury. After some patient attacking, Wycombe scored six well-worked goals and ended the first half one ahead. However, Oxford were determined to make their experience count, and after dominating a ten minute patch in the second half, the team finished as deserved 13-7 winners.
University Lacrosse is a significant step up from school Lacrosse both tactically and physically; Wycombe rose to this challenge and it was an excellent practice for future matches. Congratulations to the 1st XII for their spirited effort.
