| Wycombe Abbey School Website Junior House: Junior House Intro
Junior House is the home of all the UIII girls. It is a warm friendly place that enables the younger girls to quickly find their feet at Wycombe. Girls know which Senior House they will belong to before they enter Junior House which means that as well as having their own space they also feel integrated into the wider life of the school.
Junior House is a happy, lively, caring environment, which allows the girls to settle into boarding in a friendly, positive and homely atmosphere. This first year they spend in Junior House enables them to “find their feet”, become familiar with their peers and develop friendships, many of which will remain with them throughout their lives.
The dormitories are bright and inviting. The house benefits from new dining and computer areas, which have been described as being like a fabulous “internet café”. Here the girls can relax, play, email or finish off that last piece of prep. We have five pianos and a music practice room. The art and craft Recreation Room is always available for making cards and posters.
There is a high staff to pupil ratio, ranging from our two young graduate Resident Tutors, to the more mature and experienced Housemistress, two Assistant Housemistresses and Matron. The Housemistress is also a teaching member of staff which means she can relate both to academic and personal issues. Matron organises the domestic matters and works closely with the other staff to provide a high level of care and support in safe, stimulating and pleasing surroundings.
