    Community Service

For several years Wycombe Abbey has been in partnership with The Cressex Community School, a co-educational upper school serving a nearby catchment area. Some twenty students from Clarence travel to the school for one lesson a week, the aim of which is to help younger children achieve higher literacy levels.

A further twenty girls from Years 7 and 8 at Cressex visit Wycombe Abbey each week for an 'enrichment programme'. Here, another group of students from Clarence set up a different activity each week, from cake-making to climbing. This term, several staff have volunteered their time, too, thus broadening the range of experiences on offer to the girls. The partnership is mutually beneficial with Wycombe Abbey girls learning a whole range of new skills related to teaching and the Cressex students sharing our wonderful facilities and our best resource - our girls themselves.

An additional venture is our link with Horizon Sports Club which helps children with disabilities. In our swimming pool, sixteen enthusiastic students from the LVI have been learning how to help our small group of special visitors who attend with their parents once a week. Much fun and laughter has been had by all so far, and our girls are proving to be wonderful assistant coaches. They are learning their skills from the club's two expert coaches, Rachel and Jeanette. Jeanette was, herself, previously a Para Olympic swimmer.
