Parents who live abroad or who spend long periods of time outside the United Kingdom must appoint an official guardian for their daughter. The guardian must be resident in this country, preferably within easy reach of the School and be prepared to take full responsibility for her, i.e. must be available to act in loco parentis if parents are not available, including during Short and Long Leaves and any other period of enforced school closure when girls may not remain in the School. The guardian must also speak fluent English. To help you, we can supply you with the details of agencies that parents have used in the past, although we cannot make recommendations. Please note that you must satisfy yourself that your guardian meets your requirements. Wycombe Abbey values the role of the guardian and welcomes guardians to school functions; a reliable, caring and interested guardian can make all the difference to the experience of the girl who lives overseas.
