PSHCE

The PSHCE programme covers study skills, PSHE, Citizenship, and Financial awareness.

UIII The course focuses on community living, citizenship, health issues and study skills.  Puberty and peer relationships are discussed and we work closely with the Junior House staff so that any concerns that the girls have can be addressed.  We aim to make the transition from junior school to a secondary boarding school as smooth as possible.  Videos, visiting speakers where appropriate, games and discussion in small groups vary the pace of the classes.

LIV The course builds on topics introduced during the Upper Third year and considers pressures that the girls may encounter, both within school and in the wider context of society.   The pressure to achieve, to conform with peers, to experiment with drugs, smoking or alcohol, are all discussed.  The risks of eating disorders are considered.  We stress the importance of self-esteem and personal responsibility.  Videos, visiting speakers, small group discussion, quizzes and questionnaires are used to vary the pace of lessons.

UIV As well as building on the foundation of previous years, the course introduces the topic of sex education. We stress the significance of marriage as a loving and committed relationship and discuss sexuality, contraception and gender issues.  Sexually transmitted infections, including AIDS, are covered.  Full and frank discussion of each topic is encouraged so that each girl can make informed and responsible choices in her own life.
