That one word ‘English’ denotes a subject full of cultural riches which can provide interests for life. At one level, English involves all the techniques and skills needed to foster literacy and it is therefore a subject which serves both pupils and other subjects. In various ways, it focuses on both language and literature and can provide a rich diet of stories, thoughts, feelings, characters, dramas, tones and motives. English is one subject which naturally promotes the discussion of people, ideas and opinions, among many other many things.

Everything you touch or use has been discovered, improved or tested by a Chemist.
Chemistry is the study of the material world; it underpins every aspect of our lives, from the pharmaceuticals we use to heal, to the plastics that surround us. As Scientists we endeavour to instil an appreciation of the consequences of the actions of Man on the environment in which we live.
Physics provides the basis of our understanding of the Universe, from the smallest to the largest scale and reveals why it is the way it is and how it works. The understanding we gain as Physicists enables us to apply our knowledge to the world we live in. The things we use every day - from the cars on the roads, to the fabrics used to make the clothes we wear; from the electricity we use to boil a kettle to the components inside our computers – would not exist if it were not for the physicists who made discoveries and developed their ideas over generations.
As Biologists we wish to engender an enthusiasm for, and enjoyment of, the living world.
