| The Curriculum
We aim to provide a curriculum sufficiently broad to ensure that each girl has the opportunity to identify her own interests and strengths and to keep her options open for as long as possible.
In their first three years all girls study a full range of academic subjects and participate in creative subjects and sporting activities, thus developing all their skills and laying secure foundations for the future.
During the two fifth form years, each girl studies between eight and ten subjects for GCSE. She follows our core curriculum: English, English Literature, Mathematics, a Modern Language, and Physics, Chemistry and Biology either as separate subjects or as Combined Science. She chooses her other GCSEs from a wide variety of subjects and participates in a general studies course.
Physical education remains part of the core curriculum throughout each girl’s time at Wycombe Abbey but from the Fifth Form onwards she is able to choose from an increasingly wide range of sporting activities.
During the Lower Sixth year most girls study four Advanced Subsidiary subjects and pursue three of these to A2 level, in the Upper Sixth. Because we make use of the full boarding week a broad range of options is possible. Our Sixth form programme also includes community service, a variety of sporting activities, key skills, general studies and a lecture programme.
