Despite a frustrating journey to St Catherine's and a very limited warm up, the 1st Squad started well in their opening game against St Catherine's at the Ready Draw Tournament. St Catherine's, however, used their midfield speed to good effect and Wycombe narrowly lost the match 6-5. In the second game Wycombe's defence was very strong, frustrating St Swithun's again and again as they failed to penetrate the solid unit. The attack combined together well to create more and more shooting opportunities and the team finished victorious, 8-5.
Meanwhile, Wycombe travelled to St Swithun's with nine teams returning with six pleasing wins and three losses. Another win for the triumphant 2nd XII demonstrated the enormous potential of this team. The 3rds had a fantastic win fighting extremely hard to take the lead in the second half with Sophie (POM) dominating the defence. U15As were determined to beat the opposition and gave 100% until the final whistle. Victoria should be commended for her performance in the goal. U15Bs were unfortunate not to score on many occasions and the defence, led by POM Anastasia, continued to put pressure on their opponents throughout the game.
Our skill and athleticism in the A, B and C U14 teams led to three convincing victories. Mrs Hermsen was especially impressed with the grit and determination demonstrated in the latter stages of play. POMs, Tilly, Sophie and Charlotte stood out due to their application of coaching points.
Our U13s met tough opposition and although both teams lost, they learnt a lot from the experience and are determined to work hard next week to face the challenge of Lady Eleanor Holles.
